Step 1: Warming-up
2. Show a piece of music and have a free talk with students about what equipment do they usually use to play music. And then lead out the topic.
Step 2: Pre-speaking
Read the dialogue for the students and ask students what the content is mainly about.
Ask students to read the dialogue again and find out the sentences the character used to give instructions. Then, teach students the grammar point contained in the two sentences and give some more examples such as “If you want to start cook meal, press the round button.”
Step 3: While-speaking
Ask students to work in pairs and role play the dialogue in 5 minutes.
Then divide students to work in groups of 4 and discuss the instructions of how to use an electronic cooker. While they are practicing, they can reach to me if they have any problems.
Step 4: Post-speaking
Ask students to share their instructions with the rest of students. Some positive evaluations will be given to students accordingly.
Step 5: Summary and Homework
Summary: invite a student to be a little teacher and summarize today’s lesson.
Homework: ask students to design a machine they want to have and give some instructions.
1. How do you improve students oral English?
In this class, I have several activities for my students to improve their oral English. First of all, I ask my students to have a role-play of the dialogue and then I ask them to have a group work to discuss the instructions of an electronic cooker. After class, I will ask my students to read article loudly and also, I will ask them to do some dubbing game after class, which are all beneficial to improve their oral English.
2. Why do you arrange role play?
I arrange role play in my class for two reasons. Firstly, the content of my class is a dialogue. After analyzing the main idea and the sentences students can use to give introduction, the most useful way to practice their oral English is to practice the content itself. Besides, role play is an activity that contains two more characters which is beneficial for me to improve students’ awareness of cooperation.
